AGUA de MAYO— how true? this is so never been heard for me

The poem was written by one of our heroes, Andres Bonifacio clearly to encourage us Filipinos to be patriotic and nationalistic to our own country. He was not a good writer during that time but through this poem, he was able to prove his self that he could write especially that love for Philippines is the main issue.

Pagibig sa Tinubuang Lupa could mainly capture the heart of anyone whop would get to read it.It showcased the total compassion of Bonifacio for his country. In the first stanza, “Aling pagibig pa ang hihigit kaya sa pagkadalisay at pagkadakila gaya ng pagibig sa tinubuan lupa? Aling pagibig pa? Wala nga, wala.” means no greater love could be ever compared to a person’s love for his own country. That line hit me the most. It made me ask myself, Do I really love my country? Or how much do I even value it? Because honestly, I can’t think of anything I have done to show how I love my country. Yes, I sing the National Anthem but that’s it. I can’t remember I have ever sung it with feeling or proud. Too bad for me. The first stanza, was blatantly expressed by Bonifacio. Another line, “Kung ang bayang ito’y masasa-panganib At siya ay dapat na ipagtangkilik, Ang anak, asawa, magulang, kapatid; Isang tawag niya’y tatalidang pilit.” hit me. The definition of the the phrase is so heavy. Today’s modern times, is there a living man who will sacrifice even his own family for the sake of his country? That phrase only showed the overflowing and enduring love of Bonifacio for the Philippines that up to his last breath, he stand for what he is fighting for.

Probably, Bonifacio is not saying that we should also die fighting for the Philippines like he did. What he wanted us Filipinos to do is to at least show our love and concern for our country. Be nationalistic and patriotic. Be someone that could raise the flag of the Philippines with pride and honor.

“Know your priorities.” Somehow this line makes me feel sad L I admit, I’m really not good in balancing that is why most of the time, I only chose one and forget about, I’d rather refer to as ‘other things’ than saying my least priorities. I’ve been through this kind of scenario but this time for me is unusual because the most sensitive part of me is already involved for the very first time of my entire existence. At first, Euphoric. Ecstatic. Exciting. Then, Heartrending. Nakakalito. Nakakalungkot. Inspite all that, I am happy. I’ve already felt my heart skip a beat. This is crazy. I am feelin’ crazy. But I lovin’ it. It has to be stopped. I can’t. How long can I keep going? Not sure if I can take the risk. But all I know is right now, I am happy.
